Erin R. Burkett

Dr. Erin R. Burkett serves as a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geophysicist with the Science Application for Risk Reduction (SAFRR) Project, working to facilitate the implementation and understanding of natural hazards science by partners and users in the community, whether individuals or decision-makers in the public and private sectors. Dr. Burkett received a B.S. in Physics and a Minor in Art from the University of Delaware in 2004 and a Ph.D. in Geophysics at the University of California, Davis in 2010. During post-doctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), her involvement in communicating science through talks and tours of the Caltech’s Seismological Laboratory and collaboration with USGS scientists eventually led to her position with the USGS SAFRR group. She is currently involved in projects including earthquake and tsunami scenarios and earthquake early warning system planning and messaging, with the aim to help to translate hazard science and provide resources for better understanding and application by users and stakeholders.
